Tom Hering's Dr. Syn

This is Walt Disney's "Dr. Syn, Alias The Scarecrow" (the title of the theatrical film released in 1963), aka "The Scarecrow Of Romney Marsh" (the title of the three television episodes broadcast in 1964). I began this project in July 2000, and worked at it, on and off, until January 2003. The Dr.Syn/Scarecrow figure on his horse, Gehenna, is a conversion of Aurora's Lone Ranger. The gibbet, of course, is Aurora's Hanging Cage - slightly modified. Most of the base is scratchbuilt. Materials used in the project were two-part epoxy putty, styrene sheet, stretched sprue, plastic brush bristles, plastic broom bristles, and model railroading scenics (various grades and colors of sand and ground-up foam). The paints used were a variety of oil and acrylic hobby paints, as well as watercolor and india ink washes. A clear matte laquer was the final finish. The model is 1/12 scale - about 11" in height. More information about Walt Disney's Scarecrow can be found at my website.
