BuildEnterprise
tim roy's enterprise d

When I saw the new Enterprise in "Star Trek...The Next Generation" for the first time, I immediately thought that the nacelles and oval shape of the ship looked a little stubby and out of proportion. I think that this was due to having gotten used to the longer more graceful lines of the earlier versions of the Enterprise.  But after a while I warmed up to this new look and decided to  build it for myself. After studying some tapes of the show and as much of the pictures that were available on the internet I settled on the paint scheme and didn't vary much from the colors that came in the kit's instructions.

The only problem about building the Enterprise-D is immense number of windows on the ship. At the time I was just getting back into scale modeling  again and decided that I didn't have enough experience in lighting to dry to drill all those holes that would be needed for lights. So I opted for using a very fine point Sharpie marker to "paint in" the windows.

The deflector dish was probably the most fun to paint and I used  slightly brighter shades to give the illusion that it was back lit. The clear parts of the nacelles were painted using clear blue and red paints, but this doesn't show up as well in the photos as it does in person. AMT did a really nice job in the mold of the kit and I  plan to either tear this one down and put some wheat bulbs  inside or I'll build another one with the lighting that this kit just begs for.
