Steve Thomas, Tidewater FM radio personality, and good friend of some twenty years, shows off some STNG gizmo's we carpet taped
to his temples. These square thing's were cut from styrene sheet, glued together and have yet to receive the final detail items and paint job.

That's me wearing the
"neural neutralizers". These were seen on ST:TNG andf were used to help a person sleep or in the resuscitation process. The 2 pieces are joined together by a band and each have
"blinkie" lights that flash when activated.

Some kind of 'hand-phaser' being built up from scratch by Steve Thomas. Very nice layout and a good honest engineering job
assures a sound fit of the different parts. Adhered with CA adhesive and seams filled with Nitro-Stan, 2001 red automotive touch-up putty. A toy board, speaker, and switch have been pressed into service
to provide this hand weapon the needed visual and audio effects.

This has been called a
"dermal regenerator" and was only seen in ST:DS9", though Doctor Bashir used it as a scanner. It may very well be a Cardassian device as DS9 continued to use Cardassian equipment and
devices though the Cardassians no longer occupied the station.

Some sort of medical instrument, I think - hell… you guy's are the Trekkers… you tell me what the hell this thing is!
Steve got creative and made use of a lipstick container, a pillbox and some copper pipe end-caps. All these 'trash-bashing' sins will forever be hid once he gets the paint down.

This is a "Klingon
hypo". It was seen on ST:TNG ("The Drumhead"). I've modified it into a hybrid of what was seen and what was conjectured. Interestingly, it's called a "positronic analyzer" in the
"Star Trek: TNG Interactive Manual".

This gun looking gizmo is some sort of medical 'injection gun'. A doll size 'baby bottle' serves as the removable serum
container. The nozzle end is an air fitting likely secured from the hardware store. This piece has already had the first shot of primer put down, which identified the flaws already addressed with red
touch-up putty.

|
This is a "blood infuser" apparently used on ST:DS9.

I have no idea what this thing is supposed to represent, but again, the work of Steve Thomas shows care of manufacture and
assembly from basic styrene sheet cut to shape, glued together, and faired in with putty and careful filing/sanding work.
|
|
This is the standard hypo as
seen on ST:TNG. I'm using the bottle from a spray atomizer as the drug vials.

The 'collection' of various ST hands tools, all built by Steve Thomas.

All these props and the ones
planned will have some type on sound and/or light associated with it's function. I don't have the knowlege to build electronics I want, but can cannibalize toys to use their sound/light boards to fit
(hopefully) in these props. I've purposely taken shortcuts as I want to get these done as quickly as possible for my Star Trek club. If these were for me, I'd take the time to get all the drawing and
specs I could get and build from scratch...and yes, Dave and I have debated the "model builder/assembler" topic. I can see his point, but I don't really care. Though I dont't yet have his
expertise, the models I "assemble" are just fine and I'm almost always pleased with the final result. Just like everything, model "building" will come in time...with Dave's help and
mentoring!
These props and the ones to follow are for my "starship" the "USS JAMESTOWN" (www.angelfire.com/va/ussjamestown). It's a chapter of the international "Star
Trek" club called "Starfleet". They'll be used for our displays and role playing with kids and kids at heart!
I hope this makes things clearer and thank you very much for featuring
the pics of my work on your site. I will send pics of the finished props hopefully by summer's end. I just completed construction of a long needed paint booth so I can paint in my apartment instead of
waiting to use the building's laundry room!
