BuildEnterprise

S. Matthew Coles' Voyager

This is Revell/Monogram's Voyager Special Edition, built stock.

Build quality isn't great, but it is one of my oldest kits. I'm fond of the paint job however, even if it isn't detailed or particularly accurate. The basecoat was mixed from about five different Humbrol colours. I studied video tapes to get the colour, and didn't go for  the studio model's colours, but rather for what the ship looks like on TV. I used a dark gray, light gray, red and even yellow to mix the colour. Being rather dark to begin with, I applied the ships numerous decals and then oversprayed it with thinned gray paint to give it some scale. I like the way the ship seems to receed into the distance in some of the photos.

Unfortunately the warp nacelle joints  have split slightly due to wear: as soon as I can mix the same base colour (a difficult task) I'll re-putty those seams and re-paint and re-weather certain areas. I'll also sort out some other minor damage  and bad-joints in the same way to make the ship better. (It was one of my first "serious" models so it's not that well built. Oh well, you learn a hundred better ways to do things with every model  you build)
