Return to CultTVman's Fantastic Modeling Return to Modeling Star Trek

BuildEnterprise
Mike Waters Enterprise D

This is my first crack at scale modeling. I've always been interested in Star Trek models, but never gave in to my urge to try my hand at actually building one until now. And what better ship to start with than the good old AMT/Ertl U.S.S. Enterprise D.

I used Camouflage Grey spray paint for the base color, and Light Sea Grey for the Aztec pattern, (hand painted of course). I started painting in the windows before I discovered the ease of using black and white gel pens. They make life a lot easier. After the painting stage, I sprayed the parts with a clear protective coat, and then applied the decals. The final stage was to spray the entire ship with a flat finish coat.

This kit was assembled as it comes out of the box, with the exception of the bussard collectors. I messed up the ones that came with the kit (long story!!!), so I ordered resin replacements.

I'm very grateful that I stumbled upon the Cult TV Man web site before starting this monster. The tips and tricks I've learned here made this modeling venture much more enjoyable. Thanks.

Mike Waters
