I finally got this thing finished the way I like. The Aztec is airbrushed, a mix of light ghost gray and white over a white base coat. The warp pylon strongbacks are a custom mix of white, gray, and blue (don't ask for the formula, I don't know.)

Nearly all detailing beyond that are custom printed decals from an Alps MD-1000 on VitaCal clear decal paper.

I spent considerable time looking at the excellent photos of the studio model at Cloudster

Considering this began as the old AMT/ERTL kit everyone loves to hate, I think I've come up with something good to look at.
