Frank P. DeCandia's Maria

Metropolis U.F.A Maria: Made in 1984 by Masudaya of Japan. She measures about 16" alone, and 17.5" on her base. Seen here unpainted  with her MINT condition box.

I told Maria I was giving her a makeover to make her beautiful. She was so happy she went to pieces on me.

Her subtle coloration makes it difficult to get detailed picture under normal circumstances.

Had to photograph her without a flash. It washes out the subtle detail. Notice the natural dark spots. Ex: The face, neck, ribs, and abdomen. All enhanced with paint. Otherwise she would appear more one shade.

The eyes have it! Is it just me, or does she resemble "7 of 9" from Star Trek: Voyager? She's considering a job modeling. Not a bad  idea since she never ages.

The word "Metropolis" is written across the foot post. Didn't take too long to think up a color scheme to enhance the  rubber base. In painting the base I tried to preserve the dark art deco feel as it appeared in the movie. Gloss black is for a polished stone look, while my "Robby the Robot" color gives a dull  stone-like quality. Somewhat like a grave stone, for Maria is inanimate, yet alive. The "inlaid" blue stone lines, and gold leaf lettering polish the art deco effect nicely. Plus chrome outlines the spot-light holes.

Uses 2 "C" batteries to light up the mini spot lights. Makes her appear mysterious - just like a woman.
